Outside Morgan we entered the Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone.
Thanks to my new copy of the state Quarantine guide I had read that I could keep my fruit and vegetables providing I had a detailed receipt from a reputable South Australian retailer, and luckily I had kept the supermarket receipt so the man was happy for me to keep my cucumber, tomatoes and mixed salad. We will just buy fruit on a daily basis for the next few days.
So we drove into Morgan, a nice little town on the banks of the Murray.
We found some shade down by the little ferry crossing and enjoyed some lunch.
The river is not as "Mighty" as it once was, the flood marker tells its' own story.
After lunch we pressed on, following the mighty Murray River to Renmark, on the border of South Australia and Victoria. Here we spent the night next to the Murray River.
We saw some beautiful parrots - unfortunately they were in the caravan park's aviary.
The sign on the cage said - Hooded Parrot but it doesn't match the description or image of a Hooded Parrot in my bird book or online.....
This parrot however, did match it's sign - a Princess Parrot.
The next morning - Hallo Victoria. We crossed the Murray into Victoria and the little town of Paringa, here we bought a lovely loaf of Rye at the Bakery / cafe, Mmmmm.
Then we headed directly east on the Sturt Hwy. Every few metres there was another 'road safety' message from VicRoads. There were roadsigns informing us of radar usage, speed limits, to wear seat belt, injured wildlife rescue, etc.... all very mundane and quite distracting, as Michael was trying to avoid the potholes and illegal overtakers!
This stretch of the highway was littered with more roadkill, but no more quarantine stops in our direction as we drove through to Mildura. Despite being a large town Mildura does not have a bypass road so we drove through the centre of town and out into New South Wales and the town of Gol Gol.
Here we parked near a little park and the boat ramp, enjoying lunch in the sun before continuing alongside the Murray to the town of SwanHill.
We didn't recognise anything in the town, well it has been 14 years since we were here. We drove a few kms out of town and checked into a lovely quite caravan park. We had an area of the park to ourselves and enjoyed sitting in the shade watching a family of Miners (birds) feeding their young. It was so relaxing that we decided to 'chill out' totally and spend another day here.
